The Dog & Pony Show is about telling stories using a single board to carry the theme about the human condition. (I started the Board/Bored series at the beginning of the Covid 19 Pandemic in 2020.). It is
also about telling stories using the common shelf, as a stage to relate satire by compiling found objects, paint and wood; and the idea of good and evil as a common ground. The Dog & Pony Show is about the human circus.
Artists Statement
My work traces the human condition the predicament we all share living in these bodies that we call home. My interest in the human condition revolves around our limitations and frailties and how this all contributes to the act of being human. My work becomes theater, where storytelling devices are used to create a psychological drama. I work with a variety of materials and textures, which add to the complexity of the images and incorporates an edginess and detail into the work. I blend rough and smooth wood, painted and unpainted surfaces, found objects and memorabilia into the work. This process gives me a visual and physical dialogue, which heightens the tension of the drama, thus creating large or small-scale tableaus.
